UT Tyler:
Feb 1st - Last day to register for scholarships
May 1st application deadline

Plan out what classes you need:
http://www.lonestar.edu/as-requirements.htm

Suggestions:
- Apply to more than one university
Some universities receive tens of thousands of applicants each semester and can be very hard to get into.  The most important thing for your 4 year degree is that it comes from an ABET accredited school.  There are many different universities in Houston that are all really great, and all offer math and engineering degrees.  If you keep your options open, you are more likely to not only get accepted, but get scholarships as well.

- Apply to more than one department
Some majors are much more competitive to get into than others.  Sometimes the route into a competitive major is to get accepted into a different department, and then transfer into the major you want after you are accepted.

Reverse Transfer
If you do not get your AS degree with LSC prior to transferring.  We would still love to get you your AS degree!  After you transfer, we can take classes from your new institution, and use them to get you your degree.  Keep in touch with us after you transfer!

To Transfer:
Nicole will help you find the current transfer equivalencies for whatever University you plan on going to.

Warning:
Excess Credit issues:
Florida, Tx, North Carolina, and Virginia all have excess credit laws:

see also:

If you have too many credit hours:
♣ you lose your financial aid AND
◘ have to pay out of state tuition

Long story short,
  • Don't take classes you don't need!
  • Avoid W's (these count against your credit hours) Get out of the class by the ODR (official day of record) if you need to.
  • Avoid retaking classes
  • Take developmental classes under the CE umbrella, NOT as college credit hours

If you already have too many credit hours - there are options (some Tx universities do not punish you for taking too many classes, there are out of state universities who will take you, etc.)  Try to avoid limiting yourself though by only taking the classes you need.

    TSI Placement testing:
    Use the compass test.
"All students, unless considered TSI Exempt, must take the TSI assessment prior to enrolling in classes. Students scoring below the placement test standards are required to enroll in developmental courses which do not apply towards a degree or certificate."

Please take all developmental classes you need as CE (continuing education) rather than college credit so that these credit hours do not count against your maximum number of credit hours for a degree.
    • Math:  Everything below precal should be CE:
      • MATH 0306→0308→0310→1314
    • Physics: General physics should be CE
    • Chem: intro to Chemistry should be CE

    Avoid taking electives early on:
    • No PE
    • No intro to Computers

    most ENGR's need
    • ECON 2302 - micro economics
    • English 1301 - technical writing
    • Language philosophy culture: take 2306 / 2316
